WASATCH COUNTY, Utah — A man from Murray was found dead in the water at Strawberry Reservoir after family members said he never returned to the docks, according to the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office.
WCSO officials said their 911 Center received a call around 12 p.m. Monday from a woman who reported that her husband spent the night on his boat, but didn’t return to the Aspen Grove dock at 9 a.m., which was the time he said he would be back.
The man’s boat was later found near Soldier Creek, officials said, about 100 yards away from the shore.
It was anchored and there were no occupants on board.
That’s when deputies, Wasatch County Search and Rescue, Wasatch County Fire, State Parks, Division of Wildlife Resources and a Department of Public Safety helicopter responded to the scene.
Officials said rescue crews eventually located the man 50 feet below the water, underneath the boat.
His name has not been released, but officials said he was a 44-year-old man from Murray.
“We are saddened to hear of the loss of this man and our hearts are with the family and friends so deeply affected,” read a statement from the WCSO.
An autopsy will be performed by the State Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the official cause of death.
EDITOR’S NOTE: The story has been updated to say the man was found dead in the water after he was reported overdue. It originally said the man died after he was found 50 feet below the water. The headline has also been updated to say “in water.”
