Local business helps community during 5-day boil order in Pleasant Grove

Aug 30, 2021, 11:54 PM

PLEASANT GROVE, Utah  It took something of a community effort to help everyone get through a boil order that lasted for nearly five days in Pleasant Grove.

On a hot summer’s evening, it couldn’t help but feel even drier.

“We were just like, ‘Oh, okay. It’ll just be a few days,’ but it has been five days now,” said Kyler.

On Wednesday, E. Coli bacteria was discovered in the water supply.

“Bathing’s been a little hard because they can’t swallow the water,” said Corie.

City officials issued a boil order that same day.

“They came out and said the E. Coli was gone, but they were finding coliform,” said Kyler, referring to an update Sunday from the city.

With the amount of boiling at home reaching a “burn out,” neighbors turned out in numbers to watering holes less traveled.

“Obviously, a boil order is pretty big news,” said Trent Spafford. “We were asked if we would be willing to offer the community here safe water, and we said, ‘Of course, yeah.'”

Local consulting firm Enevive has been offering free, clean water to the masses.

“We’ve had as many as a line of 10 people waiting to fill up the water,” said Spafford.

The thirst has been undeniable.

“At first, we were using our bottled water and we were boiling water, and that got old really fast!” said Jen Bott.

“Anyone can come in and fill up a jug, and so, we’re glad to oblige,” said Spafford.

“It’s been a lifesaver,” said Bott.

After five long days of fill ups, the boil order was finally lifted Monday night.

“Just another thing we had to deal with,” said Kyler

The water could freely flow once again.

“We’ve been getting by!” said Kyler

City officials have encouraged people in the Battle Creek service area to run each tap or faucet for a minimum of five minutes.

They also said it’s important to get rid of any ice formed since the boil order has been in place.

The residents were also told they may want to replace their disposable refrigerator filters.
