OREM, Utah — A man was arrested Monday after police say he smashed a Spanish Fork police patrol car, as well as the officer’s personal car, with a hammer.
“As the male was causing the damage, he was also heard by witnesses yelling derogatory comments about the police,” read a Facebook post from the Orem Police Department.
Shortly after officers arrived on scene, they arrested the man and charged him with felony criminal mischief.
Police said the patrol car sustained extensive damage and the windshield of the officer’s personal car was broken.
“We wanted to make the public aware of this so they can be aware this has happened and watch their own neighborhoods close for anyone doing damage to vehicles or property,” police wrote in the Facebook post.
They urged residents who see anything suspicious to call their non-emergency number at 801-229-7070.
