Star Trek star George Takei to visit the U of U

The University of Utah’s MUSE (My Signature U Experience) program announced its first national guest for the 2022 year, George Takei. Takei played Lieutenant Sulu on the original “Star Trek” and is a noted activist for Asian-American and LGBT rights.

He will be speaking at the U on Jan. 27, 2022 at Kingsbury Hall. Takei’s address to the university community will begin at noon and a book signing will follow.

Takei, a Japanese-American, recently published a book titled, “They Called Us Enemy,” a memoir about his family’s experience in an internment camp during WWII.

After their release, Takei’s family returned to Los Angeles, where Takei continued his schooling and began to study acting. He attended UCLA which led him to a casting interview with Gene Roddenberry, the creator of “Star Trek.”

Tickets for students are free and can be picked up with their University ID in mid January. Additional tickets will be offered at a later date.
