SALT LAKE CITY — Several law enforcement agencies across Utah participated in the annual “Shop with a Cop” or “Shop with a Hero” event Saturday.

“At this event an officer is paired with a child for breakfast and a morning of shopping for warm clothing and holiday gifts. The children who are chosen to participate are most often at-risk, disadvantaged, or have experienced a negative situation with law enforcement,” the Utah Police Civilian Association wrote on their website.

Cedar City Police Department

The Cedar City Police Department said Saturday’s event was “another success.”

“We love our community and helping these children,” read a Facebook post from the department.

Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office

“This is one of our favorite days of the year,” officials with the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office stated.

The department thanked Stewart’s Ace Hardware store on social media for providing donuts and hot chocolate, as well as giving the children a place to shop with a cop.

Officials said other agencies that participated in the day’s event included the Roosevelt Police Department, Division of Wildlife Resources, EMT, Ute Tribe and Utah Highway Patrol.

“It was a great morning with lots of smiles from the kids and officers,” read DCSO’s post.

Roy City Fire & Rescue

According to a social media post from Roy City Fire & Rescue, firefighters, deputies and officers in Weber County were “able to shop with almost 100 children this year.”

Santa also made an appearance at Saturday’s event. Officials said he flew in on one of the local air ambulance services — AirLife Utah.

“We are proud to be part of this annual event!” the post concluded.

Uintah County Sheriff’s Office

“It was awesome!” the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office wrote on Facebook about the “Shop with a Cop” event.

The post went on to say, “Thanks to all that make this day happen and for letting us be part of it!”

Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office

Officials with the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office gathered with local children at the Homestead resort at 6:30 a.m. to kick off the “Shop with a Cop” festivities.

The children were then driven to Walmart by first responders, where they were able to do some holiday shopping and spend time with Santa.

“We would like to thank all of the local businesses and sponsors who help make this even possible. We couldn’t do this without all of you,” the post concluded.
