Two local fire departments compete in ‘America’s Bravest Charity Challenge’

SALT LAKE CITY — Four teams of firefighters from across the United States, including two in Utah, met in Salt Lake City to compete in a two-day competition called America’s Bravest Charity Challenge.
“America’s Bravest Charity Challenge was created to raise funds for worthy causes across the USA, while engaging public awareness of the every day valor of Fire Fighters,” a Facebook post from the Park City Fire District stated.
The post went on to explain, “Teams of Fire Fighters from across the USA engage in combat on the Fire Ground to benefit their chosen hometown charities.”
The firefighting teams that took place in the competition on Dec. 8 and 9 were from Chicago, Illinois; Salt Lake City, Utah; Park City, Utah; and Rochester, New York.
“The two-day competition involved live, timed fire ground events, followed by on-snow race events,” the post continued.
Officials said PCFD’s team won the timed event by a “pretty good margin.”
Capt. Eric Anderson, Capt. Chaz Ray, Firefighter Hudson Zwahlen, Firefighter David Horning, and Firefighter Matthew Carlton competed for Park City.
