CAIR urges investigation into possible hate crime of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

SALT LAKE CITY—The Council on American-Islamic Relations, known as CAIR, urged law enforcement to further investigate vandalism of a local church building of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Park City, Utah.

CAIR is the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, and it is calling on authorities to pursue the case as a hate crime investigation after multiple large rocks were thrown through three windows of the building.

Authorities have not classified this case as a hate crime since no suspects have been found and the motivations are unknown.

“Whenever a facility associated with a religious community is targeted by violence, law enforcement authorities should at least consider a possible bias motive for that violence,” CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper said. “We urge local and state law enforcement authorities to investigate this troubling attack as a possible hate crime.”

CAIR also spoke out recently against an incident at the University of Utah.

According to a release from CAIR, their mission is to “protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.”
