SALT LAKE COUNTY — Officials with the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue are urging hikers to be prepared with the proper gear after an individual was injured in Ferguson Canyon last week.
The incident happened on Friday, Jan. 14.
Search and rescue crews described the hiker in this incident as having a “more serious lower leg injury.”
In less than two hours, teams were able to locate the patient, who was approximately one mile from the trailhead, and extract them.
“As this warm weather persists, many low elevation trails can freeze and thaw in unique ways. Remember to bring your traction devices when out hiking (shoe chains, crampons, etc.) even if the temps are warm, the trails are probably still frozen,” the agency stated Saturday in a Facebook post.
Search and rescue crews were also called out to the Lake Blanche Trial on Tuesday, Jan. 11, but officials said the hiker was able to make it down their vehicle without assistance.
It is unclear how the hiker may have been injured.
