SALT LAKE CITY — A joint resolution filed in the Utah Legislature could overturn a days-old public health order requiring people to mask up indoors in Salt Lake County.
Sen. Dan McCay, R-Riverton, filed the resolution in the Senate to terminate the public health order issued by the Salt Lake County Health Department last week.
Proposed resolution targets SL County #MaskMandate:

Senators will likely debate the joint resolution beginning later Tuesday, their first day in session for 2022.
After debate, the bill must pass with at least 15 votes in the Senate and 38 votes in the House of Representatives.
The 30-day mask mandate for Salt Lake County remained in place after a vote took place Thursday evening. The Salt Lake County Council voted 5-4 to keep the mandate in place.
A publicly announced meeting between the chairwoman of the Salt Lake County Council and state leaders to discuss the county’s mask mandate failed to materialize Monday, before Tuesday’s joint resolution was introduced.
