TWIN FALLS, Idaho — The College of Southern Idaho announced it has fired the play-by-play announcer for its men’s basketball program following a comment made during the broadcast of Wednesday’s game against Salt Lake Community College.

“The College of Southern Idaho and the CSI Athletic Department want to apologize to the Salt Lake Community College players, coaches, and fans for the comments made during the broadcast,” CSI athletic director Joel Bate said in a statement. “CSI does not condone and will not tolerate these types of remarks. They do not reflect our values as an institution of higher education or as a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association. We have the utmost respect for the SLCC Athletic Department and for their student-athletes.”

The announcer, who has not been identified, reportedly called a SLCC player a “thug” after a foul during the game.

The Golden Eagles, ranked No. 23 in the NJCAA DI poll, defeated No. 1 SLCC 74-70 in the game. It was the Bruins’ first loss of the season.

SLCC will host Colorado Northwestern to end the regular season on Saturday before the Region 18 Tournament begins Thursday.
