GRANTSVILLE, Utah — State troopers closed westbound Interstate 80 in Tooele County Wednesday morning due to a crash involving two semi-trucks that blocked all westbound lanes.
Sgt. Cameron Roden with the Utah Highway Patrol said the crash happened after a state trooper initiated a traffic stop with a semi-truck near milepost 85 — about 1 mile east of the new Midvalley Highway exit.
Another semi-truck saw the stop and attempted to change lanes when it struck a black passenger vehicle that was in the semi-truck’s blind spot.
Roden said the collision caused the semi-truck to swerve, and it struck the trooper’s patrol vehicle and stopped semi before flipping and catching fire in the median.
The second semi-truck’s driver and both occupants of the passenger car suffered minor injuries. Roden said the state trooper was not injured.
Troopers anticipated reopening westbound I-80 around 2 p.m. or 3 p.m. Wednesday. Traffic was being diverted off I-80 at exit 88/Burmester Rd.
