Open house underway at Rio de Janeiro Brazil Temple

An open house for the Rio de Janeiro Brazil Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is getting underway this week.
Beginning Monday, journalists will have an opportunity to tour the sacred structure, followed by local dignitaries throughout the remainder of the week. On Saturday, March 26, the temple will open its doors to the public, and will remain open through Saturday, April 30. It will be closed on Sundays — March 27 and April 3, 10, 17 and 24 — as well as Saturday, April 2.
According to a news release from the Church, Elder Ulisses Soares of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and Elder Adilson de Paula Parrella, a General Authority Seventy, are in Brazil to host tours for invited guests.
Plans to build the Rio de Janiero Brazil Temple were announced by then Church President Thomas S. Monson on April 6, 2013. Officials said the 29,966-square foot temple will sit on a 9.44-acre lot, which will also include a full-size meetinghouse.
Following the open house, a youth devotional is set to take place on Saturday, May 7, prior to the dedication of the temple, which will be done by Elder Gary E. Stevenson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
The dedication will be held in three sessions — 9 a.m., 12 p.m., and 3 p.m. — on Sunday, May 8, 2022. The Rio de Janeiro Brazil Temple is the eighth operating temple in the South American country.
Additional temples include São Paulo, Campinas, Porto Alegre, Curitiba, Recife, Manaus and Fortaleza. Other temple locations, including Belém, Brasília, Salvador, Belo Horizonte, Vitória and a second in greater São Paulo, have been announced or are already under construction.
