Lagoon Amusement Park celebrates opening day

FARMINGTON, Utah — It’s all about the anticipation. Waiting for that one moment you know is going to happen.

Amusement Park rollercoasters are popular because of that feeling.

It’s also why Jodi Lee and her family had to visit Lagoon in Farmington on Saturday for opening day.

“We’re having the best time ever,” Lee said. “We come on every opening day. There’s just like an energy, an excitement, you know? Maybe for summer to be here? Like, it feels like summer is just around the corner?”

Maybe that’s why Lagoon was packed Saturday.

After a long winter, getting out in the warm weather does something for many of us.

Lagoon managers couldn’t have picked a better weekend to open.

“We never know, Utah weather, we’re always guessing,” Julie Freed said with a laugh. “So, every day we were checking, it’s perfect, it’s still perfect.”

Freed is the special events director for Lagoon and said preparations for opening day began last November.

“It’s a lot of planning, but look at everyone here having a great time. It’s nice to see,” she said.

Lagoon isn’t featuring any new rides this year, but one thing people who visit often will notice is the famous Carousel Candy and baby bumper cars are no longer there.

They burned during a fire this past December.

“They will be return, something bigger and even better than what was there before, but it won’t be until next season,” said Freed.

Many people will look forward to that, but maybe the biggest anticipation of all was, after two years of COVID and restrictions and mandates, it was nice to just feel like normal again.

“It feels great, you know? It’s nice to be out with the family again and enjoy the summer and spring air,” said William Hornell, who lives in Roy.

Many people noticed you can see people smiling again.

“It feels like everything is back to normal. It feels so good,” Lee said. “Feels right.”
