Man leads police on chase in stolen car, crashes and is flown to hospital

IRON COUNTY, Utah— A man who led police on a chase in a stolen car and crashed, has been charged.
At around 1:40 p.m. Wednesday, Cedar City dispatch broadcasted an attempt to locate a stolen car, a 2006 red Pontiac with the license plate, “GLORY.” The car had been left unlocked and running with the key in the ignition in the parking lot of the Iron County Care & Share facility in Cedar City.
Shortly after, there were two reports of a reckless driver in a red Pontiac on I-15, the first report at milepost 57 and the second at milepost 52.
A deputy with Iron County Sheriff’s Office waited at milepost 50 for the reckless driver when the Pontiac passed at 99 mph. The deputy initiated a traffic stop but when the deputy got out of his car to approach the stopped vehicle, the Pontiac took off.
According to a release from police, ” The deputy pursued the red Pontiac, notifying dispatch of a vehicle pursuit as a suspect vehicle continued traveling at a high rate of speed with complete disregard for his own life and life of other motorists as the vehicle continued driving very erratic, as it begun passing another motorist in the emergency lane.”
When the driver attempted to take the Kanarraville Rest Area off-ramp, they lost control of the car and crashed. The driver was ejected along with a dog that belonged to the owner. The dog was also ejected and found dead on the scene.
The driver, identified as 21-year-old Sean Damian Peacock, was attended to by medical personnel and a helicopter was sent to transport Peacock to Dixie Regional Medical Center.
According to court documents, surveillance showed Peacock drive off in the car from the Care & Share.
The owner told police that she left the car running because she had her dog with her and did not want to take her into the Care & Share.
Peacock was booked into jail and is now charged with failure to stop on command of law enforcement, reckless driving, and driving with no license – never obtaining a license.
