Rollover crash kills 2 Utah teens, seriously injures 3 others

BOX ELDER COUNTY, Utah — Two of the five teens thrown from a single-vehicle rollover in Utah’s Box Elder County Saturday are dead.
Five teens were in a 1997 Toyota 4Runner that was heading northbound on East Promontory Road and not wearing seat belts when the vehicle rolled at least twice according to Chief Deputy Cade Palmer with the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office.
“We express our condolences to the families and friends of the injured and deceased who are grieving during this difficult time,” Palmer said.
When emergency crews arrived at the crash where the vehicle was found resting on the driver’s side, they found River Manning, 18, already dead. Gage Manning, 17, was taken to a hospital by medical helicopter but he also died from his injuries. The relationship between the two teens is not immediately clear.
Identities of the other crash victims have not been released but Palmer reported they are 19-year-old male and two females, 19 and 15 years old. Earlier reports said one of the injured was taken to a hospital by ground transportation and three were taken by air.
Palmer said the survivors suffered serious injuries but are expected to recover.
Alcohol consumption and vehicle speed are part of the investigation for contributing causes of the crash. All five occupants were ejected from the 4Runner.
Palmer said the Toyota was traveling northbound on East Promontory Road and near 2000 South it drifted onto the east shoulder, crossed over to the west shoulder, then overcorrected back to the east where it rolled at least twice before stopping.
