LEHI, Utah — A shelter in place was temporarily put into effect Sunday after police say a man fled into a Lehi neighborhood after escaping a traffic stop in a stolen vehicle.
Sgt. Drew Olson with the Lehi Police Department said the incident happened just after 3 p.m. when an officer tried to conduct a traffic stop on a van.
The vehicle, which was later confirmed to be stolen, fled a short distance and crashed near the intersection of 2300 West and 2100 North, according to Olson.
Two men then took off running.
Olson said one didn’t make it very far and was taken into custody, while the other fled into the neighborhood nearby.
The second individual eventually made it into a backyard, so officers set up a containment, according to Olson. A shelter in place was put into effect while they looked for him.
The suspect was later found and taken into custody around 4 p.m.
Olson said their names are not being released at this time due to an ongoing investigation.
