St. George man in custody after allegedly crashing, killing two on motorcycle

ST. GEORGE, Utah– A man is in custody after allegedly driving under the influence and killing a man and a woman on a motorcycle on April 3, 2022, court documents state.
The driver of the Honda Accord which struck the motorcycle head on was identified as John Brett Sartor.
Sartor was driving along Old Highway 91 when he crossed the double yellow lines into oncoming traffic and struck a motorcycle head on near mile post 15.
The motorcycle, occupied by a man and a woman who have not been identified yet, was found on the side of the road along with the two occupants, both found deceased while wearing helmets.
Washington County Sheriff’s Office requested that UHP handle the investigation.
Sartor was transported with injuries by medical helicopter to St. George Regional Hospital.
While preparing Sartor for transport, medical personnel reported an “odor of alcohol.”
According to court documents, “Sartor has a revoked driver license for alcohol offenses, along with six prior driving convictions with at least two prior arrests for DUI in the last ten years. He is an alcohol restricted and interlock restricted driver. There was no interlock device observed in the vehicle.”
Sartor was arrested on suspicion of the following charges: two counts of homicide- auto criminal negligence, DUI with serious bodily injury, driving on a suspended-revoked license, alcohol restricted driver, interlock restricted driver operating vehicle without interlock system.
