SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH — Nearly a hundred students showed up outside East High School at 10:15 a.m. Friday morning to stand in solidarity for more gun control and out of respect for the recent shooting in Texas.
Students could be heard saying, “This isn’t how school is supposed to be.”
Students said they walked out of school this morning because they don’t want to see a future where schools are dangerous.
As Lucy Law, a freshman at East High School said, they do see officers in the school hallways most days, but would like to see more safety and protective measures taken by higher ups and administrators.
“I find it really inspiring, ‘cause as a student at our age, school is the most important thing. It’s the biggest social thing. It’s most of our lives, you know?” said Law.
Law said following the shooting in Texas, there is more anxiety going to school.
Some of the students said the walk out was organized on Thursday. Since it’s the end of the school year, they say no other events are planned.
