NORTH OGDEN, Utah — A couple from Kaysville and a man from Herriman are $20,000 richer after solving the 2022 Utah treasure hunt.

Saturday morning, John Maxim, one of the event organizers, posted a video to Instagram, announcing that the treasure chest had been found.

He filmed the lucky winners as they made their way down the Ben Lomond Trail near North Ogden, Utah.

One of the winners told the organizers that he and his wife, who are from Kaysville, along with his wife’s brother, who is from Herriman, solved the puzzle and found the chest.

“I work up at 4, so a little tired but definitely worth it,” said the brother.

“We’re still kind of in shock that we found it,” said the husband.

When asked what they would do with the money, the woman — identified on social media as Rachelle Rose Rice — replied, “I did have one daughter ask for Tevas.”

Her husband then said, “We’ll split it, I’m sure, between our families,” as he motioned towards his brother-in-law. “But we’ve already told our kids we got to do a fun trip if we find this, so we’ll find some fun trip to go on, I’m sure.”

“My wife and I just had our first — she’s about, almost turning five months — so that will definitely help with bills and some other stuff,” the brother said.

The 2022 Utah treasure hunt officially started on Friday, June 3 after Salt Lake City natives and real estate investors John Maxim and David Cline shared this poem on their social pages.
