Animal shelters offers half off adoption fees to encourage adoptions

MURRAY, Utah – Animal shelters across Utah are either at capacity or overwhelmed with pets, according to Utah’s Humane Society.
Shelters like the South Salt Lake Animal Service are longer accepting owner surrenders of pets because they are at capacity.
“After two weeks of being at capacity, more animals still arriving, and little to no animals being claimed or adopted, we are at a breaking point,” the shelter posted on Facebook Tuesday. “We need to slow down the amount of animals coming in. So for now, no more owner surrenders will be accepted.”
To help encourage adoptions, shelters with the Humane Society are offering half-off adoption fees until June 30.
The Humane Society said each pet for adoption is spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and property assessed for adoption.
They also offer dog training advice, 10% off vet services at their Murray location for the pet’s entire life, and a free wellness exam 30 days after adoption.
But if people still can’t adopt and want to help, the Best Friends Animal Society suggests fostering pets to help the overwhelmed shelters.
People can also help by volunteering their time at a local shelter or donating supplies and money.
