KAYSVILLE, Utah — An 8-year-old girl has died after she was struck by a parade vehicle Monday, her family confirmed to KSL TV’s Dan Rascon.

The family had previously asked police and the media to not share information, including updates on the girl’s condition, until they shared it themselves.

The girl was identified as Macie Hill.

City officials said the Kaysville 4th of July parade was canceled after Macie was hit by a parade vehicle and critically injured.

Kaysville police say Macie was a participant in the parade and was taken to an area hospital for treatment, where she later died.

“It’s hard; we look forward to the Kaysville city parade every year — everybody does,” said Kaysville police officer Lexi Benson.

Police closed the area of 175 South Main St. for several hours while investigators were on scene.

“This probably occurred before the halfway mark of the parade, so we immediately shut down everything to make sure we handled the situation appropriately and get medical attention taken care of it,” Benson explained.

The Kaysville Fire Department asked the public to leave the area calmly and said there was no public safety threat at the time of the incident.

Kaysville Mayor Tami Tran said she wants this Hill’s family to know the city is praying for them.

“It’s absolutely tragic, my heart is breaking for the family,” Tran said. “I know we are all very concerned for them, it’s heartbreaking.”

A GoFundMe* was created by a neighbor for the family.
