Cheerleader teams join community at funeral for child killed in July 4 parade

KAYSVILLE, Utah — Family and friends said a final goodbye to eight-year-old Macie Hill Saturday.
Hill died from injuries she suffered during the Kaysville 4th of July parade. She was cheerleading with her team in the parade when a trailer ran over her.
Cheerleader teams from across the state joined to send one last cheer to the Hill family.
They normally compete against each other but on this day they were united.
“As a cheer community we’re all brought together, especially at times like this,” said Asha Rydalch who is the captain of the Weber High School squad. “I felt a lot of love throughout the whole team.”
Last Monday many of these cheerleaders walked along Independence Day parades. It’s why coming together on Saturday felt so personal.
“It could have been any one of us,” one cheerleader said.

Jaimie Hancock organized the cheerleaders for the funeral. “To see the emotion on their face was amazing. To be able to support a family that we don’t know personally but they are our cheer family and that’s what cheer is all about.”
Some estimated that about 40 different cheer teams showed up to support the Hill family.
“I thought it was a really, bitter-sweet moment and I’m glad that we could be here for the support,” a cheerleader said.
Hill was buried at the Linquist’s Memorial Park in Layton.
The family set up a go fund me* account to help pay for expenses.
