Man arrested after allegedly assaulting family member, barricading himself inside home

SALT LAKE CITY — A 41-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly assaulted a family member and then barricaded himself inside a home in Salt Lake City.
Officials with the Salt Lake City Police Department said their investigation began at approximately 1:30 p.m. after they received information about a domestic violence assault.
When officers arrived at the home near Chadwick Street and Parkway Avenue, the victim said there were several unsecured guns inside his house.
“Patrol officers surrounded the house and started multiple attempts to communicate with the suspect, identified as Maurice Raffoul. Out of an abundance of caution, officers told people in the neighborhood to stay inside,” read a Tuesday evening press release from the SLCPD.
Police said before they arrived on scene, the victim had moved to a safe location, adding that Raffoul was the only one inside the home.
“The on-scene incident commander requested the assistance of SLCPD SWAT and Crisis Negotiators. These highly trained teams provide patrol officers with additional resources,” the release stated.

At approximately 4:20 p.m. Tuesday, Raffoul, who was not hurt during the incident, peacefully surrendered.
Police said he will be booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on three counts of domestic violence assault.
“During the investigation, officers learned Raffoul allegedly assaulted the victim over the last three days.”
Police said the victim is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries.
