WEBER COUNTY, Utah — A 53-year-old Utah man is in custody for allegedly sexually abusing a girl for five years, according to police.

Bryce Floyd Tyler, 53, was booked with ten counts of rape of a child, ten counts of sodomy of a child, ten counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, and possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person on Sept. 2.

According to arrest documents, the child victim told Riverdale police that Tyler sexually abused her over a span of five years and even more frequently in the last year.

The victim alleges that Tyler abused her even though she would tell him no. When the abuse started, “[Tyler] paid her $100 and offered to pay another $100 if she let him do it again.”

According to arrest documents, police learned from family members that Tyler was planning to leave Utah for Nevada. The family also told police that Tyler had a history of violence and acquired a silver handgun.

Tyler was convicted in California for sodomy on a child and sex abuse of a child in 2007. He also was convicted of failing to register as a sex offender in 2019 in Ogden.

On Sept. 1, Riverdale police executed a search warrant on Tyler’s home with the Ogden Metro Swat Team and attempted to contact him.

“[Tyler] fled the residence when he saw officers approaching,” states arrest documents. “And was not located for over 20 hours due to [Tyler] actively avoiding contact with police.”

The next day, Riverdale officers found Tyler during a traffic stop and booked him into the Weber County Jail.

After being placed in custody, Tyler’s wife told police that he has “violent sexual tendencies” and was worried he would be violent towards the victim if he was released from custody.

Police are requesting no bail for Tyler because of his plans to leave Utah, the nature of the charges, and his previous convictions.
