Man injured and SUV ‘mangled’ in crash with semi-truck

SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City Police remind community of safe driving habits after a high speed crash injured a 65-year-old man Saturday morning.
Police received multiple calls at 8:42 a.m. reporting a crash involving a semi-truck and a “mangled” SUV near 800 N. 300 West.
Officers investigated the scene while the Salt Lake City Fire Department worked to free the SUV driver, who went to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.

“Fortunately, no one was seriously injured in this crash given how much damage there was to the SUV,” sergeant Mark Wian said. “We would like to remind drivers to always drive safely and obey the posted speed limits. This crash could have been far worse.”
Both vehicles were extensively damaged, police suspect excessive speed to be a factor of the crash. Officers say they believe the driver of the SUV lost control while travelling southbound on 300 West when it crashed into the semi-truck travelling northbound.
