Utah man arrested at Salt Lake Airport with 4,100 fentanyl pills and 378 heroin doses

WEBER COUNTY, Utah — A man was arrested at the Salt Lake Airport with fentanyl pills planned to be distributed in Utah on Thursday.
According to arrest documents, David Christopher Ellis, 39, had outstanding warrants for his arrest for felony fraud in Ogden and felony domestic violence in Riverdale.
Weber County authorities were notified that Eliis was flying from Phoneix, Arizona, to Salt Lake City, Utah, on Thursday and contacted the Salt Lake City airport to confirm his arrival.
Authorities were able to take Ellis into custody at the airport. They found a “white crystal-like substance” in his front right pocket, which tested positive for methamphetamine, according to arrest documents.
Authorities began to interview Ellis, and he told them that a large quantity of fentanyl was in his checked bag with the intention of being distributed in Weber County.
According to arrest documents, a search warrant was executed for Ellis’s belongings and found “several clear plastic baggies” weighing 419.4 grams, or about fentanyl 4,100 pills. Authorities also found a 37.8-gram plastic bag of heroin, which equals to about 378 doses.
Ellis is known for frequent trips from Utah to Arizona and Mexico, using fraudulent documents and alias to conceal his identity.
Ellis was booked for two felony counts of possessing a controlled substance with the intent to distribute and a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance.
