Police: Taylorsville officers assaulted by party goers after noise complaints

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah — Two Taylorsville police officers were injured by an intoxicated crowd on Saturday night, according to police.

Resident Chrys Nikas calls his neighborhood peaceful, but Saturday night, that was far from the case.

“Somebody’s loud and the neighbor’s complaining – turn it down! Chill,” Nikas told KSL TV.

Sgt. Ryan Carver with the Taylorsville Police Department told KSL TV they received several calls of a loud party near 5300 S. Royal Autumn Circle and responded three times Saturday night.

During the third response at approximately 11:11 p.m., Carver said two Taylorsville officers went to cite the homeowner.

“A large group of intoxicated younger people, as well as older people, attacked the officers and pushed them into a corner area in the driveway,” Carver explained.

The officers called for backup, and multiple Salt Lake County agencies responded.

“I thought somebody got shot for sure because there were so many cops,” Nikas recalled.

Two suspects were booked into the Salt Lake County Jail but many suspects fled into the home, according to Carver.

“Due to the sheer number of people, it was decided not to write a warrant on the home and to conduct an investigation at a later time,” Carver said. He believes over 60 people attended the party.

Carver said two Taylorsville officers were initially assaulted, with one officer receiving most of the assault with cuts and bruises. None of the officers are being placed on leave.

Carver did not say what the two suspects were booked for.
