Businesses set to reopen in Sugar House after massive fire forced them to close

SALT LAKE CITY — Local businesses have gotten the clearance to reopen after a massive apartment complex under construction in Sugar House went up in flames.
Wednesday is a grand opening of sorts for Cubby’s in Sugar House.
“We are opening tomorrow, so we are excited to finally let our employees back to their home store,” said Dallin Fry, Cubby’s regional manager.
Cubby’s closed its doors on Oct. 26. It’s been a long, expensive few weeks.
Fry said the forced shutdown cost the restaurant thousands of dollars in food that went to waste. That doesn’t even touch on the cost of income from sales.
“They shut it down. We couldn’t go near this building,” Fry told KSL TV Tuesday. “No one could foresee something like this.”
For three weeks now, Fry has worked hard to shift the 20-30 employees that work at the Sugar House location to other stores so they could stay on the payroll. He is relieved to have those issues behind him and now hopes people come back to the area despite the demolition underway.
