St. George man arrested after fleeing police, striking police car multiple times

ST. GEORGE, Utah — A man was arrested after fleeing from police and striking a police car multiple times, injuring two officers.
According to a social media post from St. George police, at approximately 11:08 p.m. on Saturday, St. George Police Department responded to a family fight at 1732 West, 540 North.
One of the people involved, Austin Sharette, had a no-bail warrant for a protective order violation and outstanding domestic violence charges.
Sharette attempted to flee from the house, hitting a police patrol car multiple times. Then Sharette abandoned the car within the same complex and fled on foot.
The release from police states, “Multiple agencies responded to assist, including the UHP helicopter. A reverse 911 message was sent out to residents to shelter in place while officers searched the area.”
The search was called off three hours later but residents were told to “remain vigilant.”
Sharette was found hiding near Westridge Dr. and Sunset Dr. and “after a brief foot pursuit and multiple taser deployments, he was ultimately taken into custody.”
Two police officers sustained minor injuries during the incident.
Sharette was booked into jail for multiple charges including the previous warrant, domestic violence assault, domestic violence in the presence of children, criminal mischief, evading and interfering with arrest, assault on a police officer, and an attempted to disarm a police officer.
