MIDWAY, Utah — Tickets are on sale now for one Of Utah’s favorite holiday attractions.

Ice Castles at Soldier Hollow Nordic Center in Midway opens on Dec. 21.

“This is the first time we’ve ever been able to open before Christmas in Utah,” Ice Castles CEO Kyle Standifird said. “Mother Nature has been good to us this season, and we’re excited to welcome guests to Ice Castles over the holiday break.”

The Ice Castles feature slides, tunnels, and sculptures, all made entirely of ice and embedded with color-changing LED lights.

Construction started on Nov. 27 as ice artists grew and harvested icicles. Artists were growing up to 10,000 icicles each day.

Tickets are expected to sell out quickly. You can buy online here.

Ice Castles typically opens in late December or early January, depending on the weather. It is usually open for 4-6 weeks.

Ice Castles will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but the attraction will be open most of the other days during the 2-week Christmas break.

Tickets are on sale on the attraction’s website, www.icecastles.com/utah/

These icicles are individually fused with others using water to hand build masses of ice within the slides, tunnels, and sculptures.

The frozen attraction offers horse-drawn sleigh rides, and new this year, guests will have the chance to “see and meet live reindeer and whimsical winter characters.”

A news release said, “Founder, Brent Christensen, developed the patented process used to create Ice Castles while attempting to build a winter playground for his kids in the front yard of their home in Alpine, Utah. The project drew crowds who came out to tour Christensen’s frozen creation. Ice Castles has since turned into an internationally renowned tourist attraction with five locations across North America and growing.”

The Utah-based company has four other locations in Minnesota, Wisconsin, New Hampshire, and New York. The castle in Midway is the first of the five attractions to open this season.
