Four minor earthquakes reported in Cache County

SALT LAKE CITY — Dozens of Cache Valley residents reported feeling a series of earthquakes that shook the area to start the new year.
According to the University of Utah Seismograph Stations, four earthquakes ranging in magnitude from 1.9 to 2.9 were reported in the Cache Valley between Monday and Tuesday morning.
Monday’s earthquakes
The first earthquake was a magnitude 2.6 quake, which was reported at 6:37 a.m. Monday.
The epicenter of the shock was located 6.8 miles west of Hyde Park, and over 30 people in the Cache Valley reported that they felt this earthquake.
A magnitude 2.9 earthquake then occurred at 10:50 p.m., with an epicenter 5 miles west of Hyde Park. Over 120 people reported feeling that shock, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
“A total of 14 earthquakes of magnitude 3 or greater have occurred within 16 miles of the epicenter of this event since 1962,” the U. said. “The largest of these events was a magnitude 4.1 on Oct. 18, 1964, 4.7 miles east-north-east of Providence.”
Tuesday morning quakes
A magnitude 2.7 earthquake shook the valley at 2:38 a.m. Tuesday, followed by a magnitude 1.9 quake about an hour later.
Tuesday’s stronger quake was felt by over 30 people, according to the U., with an epicenter approximately 1.8 miles west of Monday’s quakes.
No injuries or damages were reported during any of the earthquakes.
