Three found dead in Layton home identified, one in custody

LAYTON, Utah — Three people were found dead, and one person is in custody in what police are calling a triple homicide.

Lt. Travis Lyman with the Layton Police Department said the three victims were all in the same home and a person has been taken into custody.

The victims were identified as 36-year-old Anastasia Stevens, 61-year-old Becky Stevens, stepmother of Anastasia, and 73-year-old Donald Stevens, father of Anastasia.

At 9:45 a.m. the suspect called 911, told dispatchers he had killed his wife, mother-in-law, and father-in-law, and he wanted to turn himself in.

The three people were found dead in the home Friday morning.

Police said they could not confirm where the victims were found, but said the victims were in the same place.

The suspect was identified as 34-year-old Jeremy Bailey, husband of Anastasia Stevens.

Bailey and Anastasia Stevens lived at the residence. Becky Stevens and Donald Stevens were Nevada residents who were visiting.

Police said they remained on the phone with Bailey when they arrived and gave him instructions on how to exit the home safely.

According to police, Bailey was cooperative with police, “upset but cooperative.”

According to a release from Layton police, “In addition to the three victims, three of the family’s dogs had also been killed. A motive for these crimes has not been determined yet, and the cause of death is still being investigated.”

Crime Scene Investigators are still reviewing the scene and collecting evidence, but police said there was no gun found.

The suspect is still being held at the police department.

“We know there was a brief argument between the two of them, between Anastasia and Jeremy this morning, and that’s really all we know,” Lyman said. “We haven’t been able to determine a motive other than that. We’re still talking to Jeremy, but we haven’t gotten a lot of information about what led up to this or caused him to do this.”
