UPDATE:  Brent Weisberg, public information officer for the Salt Lake City Police Department, said a delivery truck hit cars and three pedestrians.

One person, later identified as a 66-year-old man, was trapped under a vehicle.

After the man was removed, he was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to police. His condition has since been upgraded to critical but stable.

“Based on the preliminary investigation, the driver of a commercial-sized delivery truck, while driving south on 400 West, lost control of the truck and crashed into four parked cars,” read a Friday evening press release from the SLCPD.

Police said the impact of the crash pinned the 66-year-old man and injured another person, who was taken to the hospital with non-critical injuries.

The driver of the truck remained on scene for a time and then was taken to the hospital to be evaluated.

“SLCPD is investigating whether the driver had a medical episode prior to the crash,” the release stated.

No arrests or citations have been made as police say the investigation is still in the preliminary stages.

“400 West will be closed in between 400 South 500 South for the next several hours,” read another Friday afternoon tweet from SLCPD.
