MIDVALE, Utah — A chemical leak at a Midvale school has prompted evacuations, authorities said.
The leak took place in the basement at Jordan Valley School, 7501 S. 1000 East in Midvale, Unified Fire Authority said on Twitter. The agency first reported the leak about 10:20 a.m.
The building was evacuated, authorities said. A hazmat team was responding to the school, Unified Fire Authority said. Someone at the school went to the basement and smelled something, and then found something leaking, authorities said.
It is not yet clear what substance is leaking, Unified Fire Authority said.
All students and staff members at the school are safe, and the evacuation is precautionary, according to school spokeswoman Kirsten Stewart. The leak is affecting a chemical line that maintains a therapy pool at the school, Stewart said.
