SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities say a Utah corrections officer suffered fractures to his face after he was attacked by inmates.
The Deseret News reports the officer was attacked Wednesday in a cell block of the Central Utah Correctional Facility in Gunnison.
Sanpete County Attorney Kevin Daniels says one inmate hit the officer multiple times in the face while another inmate blocked the cameras.
The prison was placed on lockdown and visiting was canceled.
The prosecutor says the two inmates are serving life sentences for murder and are believed to be in the same prison gang.
Daniels says the inmates will be prosecuted for the attack.
