MILLCREEK, Utah – A woman is in the hospital recovering after police her grandson stabbed her multiple times, police said.
The incident happened at approximately 6:15 a.m. Monday in the area of 3500 East Loren Von Circle.
Unified Police Det. Kevin Mallory said Zachary Lance Raynor, 26, called 911 to report he stabbed his grandmother to death. He reportedly told authorities to come and arrest him.
“She did receive some injuries to her abdomen and some of her extremities,” Mallory said. “She’s in critical, but stable condition.”
The woman’s husband took her to St. Mark’s Hospital for care before police arrived on scene where she was immediately taken into emergency surgery, officials said.
Authorities said they are questioning Raynor to determine what led to the stabbing.
Mallory said the man lives with his grandparents, and police have a history of responding to the home.
“Domestic violence it’s a difficult situation to be in, but we want to try and provide as many resources we can to those involved in it, try and get them out of that situation, out of that cycle,” Mallory said.
Raynor has a record that includes drug violations, shoplifting and disorderly conduct. He was arrested in April on a domestic violence charge, according to a probable cause statement.
According to the Unified Police Department, Raynor was arrested Monday and booked into jail on charges of attempted homicide and mayhem, both second-degree felonies.
