MOAB, Utah – Two people died and another was injured after falling into the bowl area below Delicate Arch in Arches National Park, according to Chief Ranger Scott Brown with the National Park Service.
The incident happened Friday before 7:30 a.m.
Brown said rangers received a call saying three people had fallen into the bowl area below the popular arch.
A 60-year-old woman and a 65-year-old man were found dead at the scene; a 30-year-old man was injured and was taken to Moab Regional Hospital via medical helicopter.
Officials with the Grand County Sheriff’s Office are handling the investigation and Brown said all indications say the three were from California.
No cause for the incident was given but rangers said conditions in the area were wet and slick Friday morning.
The trail has since been reopened.
The trail up to Delicate Arch has reopened for use. Winter conditions make for slippery hiking; proceed with caution.
