LAYTON, Utah — A vehicle driving down the road in Davis County somehow launched into the air and slammed into a building, knocking out a large segment of the brick wall.
The car had to be extracted from a building in Layton after the driver crashed through it, authorities said.
Officials with the Layton City Police Department said they responded to a complaint of a Jeep traveling at high speeds heading southbound on Hill Field Road just before 5:30 a.m.
They said the driver failed to negotiate the curve of the road before he crossed into the opposite lane and collided with a commercial building at 1010 North and 400 West.

Daniel Saldana lives next door, and he said he woke up to a loud crash.
“I just jolted out of bed and came out to see what it was,” he said. “At first I couldn’t see because of all the smoke and dust, and I came out of the house and started walking that way and that’s when I noticed a guy jumping out of the building, out of his Jeep.”
Officials said the driver was able to climb out of the wreckage. He was transported to a local hospital in an unknown condition.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
Sgt. Eric Smith of Layton Police said a crash like this could be catastrophic, if not fatal.
“Anytime. you’ve got a vehicle that not only has an impaired driver, but also veers off a roadway and into a building, there’s a high potential for serious injury to someone who’s either on the sidewalk or inside the business.”
The driver’s identity has not been released at this time, but officials said he is 26-years-old and was the only person in the car.
