UHP stops wrong-way driver on I-15 near Roy

ROY, Utah – Troopers from the Utah Highway Patrol stopped a wrong-way driver on Interstate 15 early Sunday morning.
UHP Sgt. Scott Wilson said the car was headed northbound in the southbound lane of I-15.
Troopers got the driver to stop near 5600 South just before 5 a.m.
The driver was about 27 years old and had mental health issues, Wilson said.
Wilson did not release her name but she was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
There were no injuries.
The state has seen a steep increase in wrong-way driver incidents in 2022.
It’s hard to pin down exactly why this keeps happening, but the Utah Highway Patrol pleaded with drivers to slow down and pay attention.

So far this year, there have been more than 50 incidents involving wrong-way drivers.
Many of the incidents involved drunk drivers.
Some of the incidents ended with fatal crashes.
