ROY, Utah – Troopers from the Utah Highway Patrol stopped a wrong-way driver on Interstate 15 early Sunday morning.

UHP Sgt. Scott Wilson said the car was headed northbound in the southbound lane of I-15.

Troopers got the driver to stop near 5600 South just before 5 a.m.

The driver was about 27 years old and had mental health issues, Wilson said.

Wilson did not release her name but she was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

There were no injuries.

The state has seen a steep increase in wrong-way driver incidents in 2022.

It’s hard to pin down exactly why this keeps happening, but the Utah Highway Patrol pleaded with drivers to slow down and pay attention.
