National parks free to the public Thursday

SALT LAKE CITY — Entrance fees at all National Park Service and Bureau of Land Management sites will be waived on Thursday in celebration of the Great American Outdoors Act.
The act was passed in 2020 as an effort to expand recreation opportunities in national parks and other public lands, by giving major investments in public lands access, land and water conservation, and recreation infrastructure.
“The Great American Outdoors Act is essential to conserving, restoring and protecting lands and waters across the nation to help address the climate and biodiversity crises, increase equitable access to the great outdoors and strengthen the economy,” Interior Secretary Deb Haaland said. “I encourage everyone to experience the beauty and bounty of our nation’s public lands – not just on August 4 but every day of the year.”

Utah is home to five national parks: Arches National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, Canyonlands National Park, Capitol Reef National Park and Zion National Park.
Visitors can locate national parks, Bureau of Land Management sites and national wildlife refuges through each bureau’s respective website.
Other fees, such as overnight camping, cabin rentals, group day use and use of special areas, remain in effect.
