16-year-old arrested in connection to fatal SLC shooting

SALT LAKE CITY — A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection to a Sept. 10 shooting that left a 17-year-old dead in Salt Lake City.
Police said the victim, identified as Bryan Galicia-Rodriguez, was shot in his car near 500 South and Post Street before 1 a.m.
According to police, the suspect was standing outside Galicia-Rodriguez’s car and fired multiple rounds into the vehicle. A passenger who was in the car was not injured in the shooting.
Officers said the suspect then got into a car and fled the scene. Police searched but could not locate the suspect or his car.

Galicia-Rodriguez was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, where he later died.
Officials with the Salt Lake City Police Department said their investigation led to the execution of a search and arrest warrant in Salt Lake City on Thursday.
During the search, detectives said they learned information about the suspect’s location and SWAT officers later arrested the suspect in West Jordan.
Police will not be releasing the suspect’s name due to his age but said he was booked into a Salt Lake County Juvenile Detention Center on charges of aggravated robbery and aggravated murder.
SLCPD officials said their investigation is ongoing and asked anyone with information regarding this shooting to contact police.
At the time of the incident, police said they believed the shooting was gang-related.
