SALT LAKE CITY — Mark Hamill weighed in on Utah’s contentious Senate race on Monday, tweeting his support for independent candidate Evan McMullin.
The actor — best known for playing Luke Skywalker in the “Star Wars” franchise — retweeted one of McMullin’s tweets from last week, chiming in with his own support for the candidate.
“I like @EvanMcMullin SO much, it makes me wish I lived in Utah so I could vote for him!” Hamill said. He added, “FUN FACT: Brigsby Bear was filmed in Utah,” referencing a 2017 comedy he appeared in.

McMullin is in a heated race against incumbent Sen. Mike Lee, a Republican. The latest Deseret News/Hinckley Institute of Politics poll shows Lee leads McMullin 41% to 37% among registered voters, although McMullin has slightly higher favorability numbers.
Last week, McMullin sued Club for Growth Action and local TV stations over a misleading attack ad. He claims the “doctored” video makes it sound like he called all Republicans racists and bigots. KSL is not named in the suit.
