Donation Fund Set Up for Dollar Ridge Fire Victims

FRUITLAND, Utah – A donation fund has been set up for people who have been looking for ways to help the evacuees and victims of the Dollar Ridge Fire, which has burned tens of thousands of acres and destroyed several homes and structures.

Duchesne County employees said they’ve taken many calls from folks who want to help the victims of the wildfire.

“Being part of the community, too, we felt a need to look into new grounds here and figure out how to do this,” said Duchesne County Treasurer Stephen Potter.

So he along with the Duchesne County Clerk Auditor, Joann Evans, created accounts where the public can donate to evacuees at Mountain America Credit Unions, Zions Banks, or online.

DONATE: Give to the Dollar Ridge Victim Relief Fund

“If they’re unable to make food donations and they’re unable to travel, this is an opportunity for them to give us the monetary needs that we can then disperse to those families, who can then go and get them for themselves,” said Potter.

While the American Red Cross has been helping folks with their immediate needs, county officials said this will help evacuees financially to buy necessities like gas, food, and clothing in a few weeks when they – hopefully – can return to their homes or decide what to do next if they’ve lost their house.

“We want to be a part of the solution to this problem,” said Evans.

Donation fund creators have been figuring out the best way to disperse the money. They hoped to work with many different church organizations and community members to make sure it’s done right and fairly for all the evacuees.

“We’ve heard of several families who live out of state, who have family here, and who want to help their friends and neighbors that they once had here.  This is their way to do that,” said Evans.
