Spring City Donates Town Holiday Budget to Quarters For Christmas

Kyra generously donates all the money she saved for two years to buy a swing set.

SPRING CITY, Utah – “It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled ’till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.”

While Spring City definitely doesn’t have to worry about the Grinch, they do have a true understanding of the meaning of Christmas.

This year, the little historic town will look less like Whoville, because they are generously donating their town holiday budget to KSL’s Quarters for Christmas. It’s the second year in a row they have taken that money and given it to help kids in need.

The residents, fire department, medical teams, and small businesses also get involved in the giving. It has all turned into a potluck and a party for the town.

Spring City even has its very own little Cindy Lou Who. Kyra, a resident of the historic town, brought all the money she saved for two years to buy a swing set and donated it.

Santa and Mrs. Claus stopped in to show their appreciation for all the donations, and while they normally fly in on Chopper 5 (Santa’s sleigh is busy preparing), this year the weather prevented the helicopter from bringing them. A problem the reindeer surely wouldn’t have.

The town ended up raising $1,595.36 to donate, and beat their number last year by a few hundred dollars.

Every winter, hundreds of Utah children don’t have adequate shoes, socks or clothing to keep warm. KSL distributes 100 percent of your donation to make sure Utah kids are warm and comfortable in the cold weather.

The following charitable Utah organizations received funds from KSL’s Quarters for Christmas this year: Utah’s education foundations (administered by Salt Lake Education Foundation), Crossroads Urban Center, Catholic Community Services and The Road Home. Agencies receiving Quarters for Christmas funding are reviewed yearly by the Bonneville Charitable Foundation and KSL.

Donations are also collected at any Utah or Idaho Deseret Book store.
