North Ogden Residents Protest Nordic Valley Ski Resort Expansion

NORTH OGDEN, Utah – Residents were fired up in North Ogden Monday night as developers for the proposed expansion of the Nordic Valley Ski Resort invited people to voice their concerns and questions.
The senior center in North Ogden was full of residents against the proposed project. At one point in the evening, residents yelled at a representative for Mountain Capital Partners, “Go home, we don’t want you here.”
The Nordic Valley Ski Resort is being proposed as a destination resort aimed at accommodating 11,000 guests a day, which is 10 times more than it currently does.
The development company is also proposing a 4.3 mile mountain crossing linking North Ogden and Eden.
“I think it would be an awesome resource for the community to have this ski resort so close and participate in the outdoors like this,” said James Coleman with Mountain Capitol Partners.
The concern from most residents is the expansion of the resort would transition North Ogden from a quiet, small community to a larger one with more traffic.
“I’m frustrated with it,” said North Ogden resident, Kim Christensen. “I think they are going to come in and destroy everything we hold so dear in North Ogden. We have been this small bedroom community and they’re trying to take that all away.”
There were rumors swirling on social media that the city council is in support of the expansion.
Coleman said there is still a long process ahead and that it’s not an accurate statement at this point.
The next meeting for residents is Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 6 o’clock at Snow Crest Junior High School in Eden.
