Snowstorm Over St. George Expected To Continue

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The snow continued to fall Thursday in St. George, accumulating at least 3 inches in areas.

In the desert community, where significant snowfall isn’t a regular occurrence, that snowfall — especially since St. George isn’t equipped with snow plows for surface streets.

“…We do have salt and sand spreaders to help with the more dangerous areas,” according to a Facebook post from the St. George Police Department. “Please understand that if our Police Department feels a road is too dangerous to navigate, they will shut it down.”

The SGPD Faceboook post included a list of tips for residents.

The department noted that people should avoid driving during the storm if they can. If citizens do have to drive, they were asked to brush all snow off their vehicles, reduce their speeds, avoid steep hills, and watch for ice on bridges and overpasses.

For the most part, the streets stayed clear.

The main roads remained wet but were relatively free of accumulated snow or ice. Drivers had to take it slower than usual, though.

Forecast

KSL TV’s meteorologist Grant Weyman said the city could get between 2 – 6 inches by 9 a.m. Friday.

The entire southern portion of the state remained under a winter storm warning Thursday, and portions of central and north Utah were under a winter advisory, between 8 – 18 inches of snow expected in some areas by 4 p.m. Friday.
