Four People Survive Cabin Explosion in Duck Creek

DUCK CREEK VILLAGE, Utah – Four people survived an explosion that destroyed one cabin and damaged three others.
Adam Scott, the deputy chief of the Cedar Mountain Fire Protection District, said the explosion happened just before 11:00 a.m. Saturday night at a cabin in Falcon’s Nest.
He said the pilot light had gone out during the day and propane gas built up inside the cabin. When the man, woman, and baby who rented the cabin arrived Saturday evening, they asked a manager to come turn the pilot light on.
That’s when the gas ignited inside the cabin.
Scott said the explosion blew out all four walls and the roof collapsed down onto the manager and family. Mandy White, who was in a nearby cabin, said her stepfather, Sid, was the manager who was inside.
“He lifted a beam off of the girl and the baby, grabbed them and pulled them out. Went back in, grabbed the dad and pulled him out. Immediately started knocking on doors, telling them to get up and get out,” White said.
All four people were flown to Dixie Regional Medical Center. The family was released Saturday night. Sid was released Sunday morning.
Firefighters urged people in the area who might have propane tanks and regulators buried under snow to dig them out so that firefighters can easily access them in emergencies.
