Lizzy’s Impact On Logan Community

LOGAN, Utah – Amid the days-long search, the disturbing charges and the ongoing investigation, a community is showing what Logan is really about.

“They’re devastated,” Keith Harris said about his neighborhood.

“It’s almost unbelievable in a town like this,” Logan resident Colden Glenn added.

Lizzy Shelley’s home is the last place she was seen alive on Saturday. Now it’s the first place on the minds of several neighbors and strangers.

“Horrific doesn’t begin to describe it,” a father named Chris said. “I’m just glad she’s not in any pain anymore.”

Chris said after seeing the picture of Lizzy on the news, his mom remembered seeing her months ago.

“My mom saw her at the store where she worked and she just really made an impression,”  he said. “She remarked how sweet she was.”

Chris is one of many men, women and children who visited Lizzy’s home on Wednesday, adding stuffed animals, flowers and candles to the growing memorial on the front porch.

“Just a little something to show we’re thinking about them and praying for them,” Chris said. ”Nothing can really put into words the results. I mean, pretty much all I can say is just how sorry we are.”

Hours after the Cache Valley Attorney’s Office filed charges against Lizzy’s uncle Alex Whipple, investigators were led to an area near the home where they believe they found Lizzy’s body.

“It pulls at the whole community,” Logan resident Laurie Harris said. “We just need to know that we can all still pull together.”

Wednesday’s discovery was a heartbreaking end to the search. But it is also appears to be only the beginning of the outpouring of love and support from the Logan community to the devastated family Lizzy left behind.

“At least there’s finally a chance for closure,” Chris said.
