Woman Tried To Send Drugs To Inmate Using Greeting Cards, Officials Say

SPANISH FORK, Utah – A woman has been arrested after she tried to send a Utah County Jail inmate drugs concealed in greeting cards, according to the Utah County Sheriff’s Office.

In a statement, UCSO public information officer Sgt. Spencer Cannon wrote that a jail employee was screening incoming mail on June 24 and discovered the greeting cards addressed to inmate Christopher McKay Cartwright, 32, of Provo. A letter arrived the following day, also addressed to Cartwright, that contained “prescription medication Suboxone in the form of sublingual strips,” according to the statement.

The drugs were detected using a VeroVision mail scanner, authorities said.

Officials said Destanee Breanne Redman, 26, of American Fork, was booked on three second-degree felony counts of arranging to, or distributing, a controlled substance in a drug-free zone. Cartwright was also booked on the same charges.
