SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Lengthy delays are expected on I-15 before the BYU-Utah football and throughout Labor Day weekend, according to the Utah Department of Transportation.

UDOT spokesperson John Gleason said construction projects across the Wasatch Front will be suspended to help with traffic flow through Labor Day.

On Thursday, delays could reach an hour before the 8:15 p.m. kickoff between BYU and Utah in Provo due to construction and evening commuter traffic.

UDOT officials said shifted and narrow lanes will impact drivers between Riverdale and Layton, Salt Lake City and Draper, and in Lehi.

Nightly lane closures between Salt Lake City and Lehi will be suspended until at least one hour after the game ends.

Near LaVell Edwards Stadium, construction on Bulldog Boulevard and 500 West will impact traffic.

Officials recommend using UTA’s FrontRunner and Utah Valley Express (UVX) bus to get to-and-from the stadium.

Extra FrontRunner trains will depart from the Provo Central Station one hour after the game ends.

During Labor Day weekend, UDOT officials said delays could reach 40 minutes beginning early Friday afternoon and lasting until 7 p.m.

For drivers heading to Nevada or California, I-15 has been reduced to one lane in each direction through the Virgin River Gorge area.

In addition to construction projects mentioned above, I-70 will be reduced to one lane in each direction between the Cove Fort and Sevier areas in Sevier County.

Officials expect delays of 10-20 minutes on northbound I-15 on Monday. Those delays will start around 2 p.m. and last until 8 p.m.
